Whereas ZinZan, I will use them where I can. I have found that my my eyes and dexterity don't lend themselves to detailing cockpits very well (I am 62).

A cockpit set gives me a level of accuracy that I simply cannot hope to achieve, so long as the companies producing the decals have faithfully recreated them. It may be the same as everyone else who has used the same set but I don't care if it is accurate.

Some models I have used the decal set provided and they have sufficed, some I have used dry brushing with no decals and the odd touch up with a posca pen and the like to add spots of colour, it is by no means accurate but it breaks up the cockpit and gives some sense of a collection of knobs and dials and I am happy with the results.

I watched MOS's show last night and wholeheartedly agreed with Nigel when he said that a Quinta / RedFox set would achieve better results than the out of the box Airfix plastic + decal - having looked at the Jaguar model I can see why he said it.

I dare say a better modeller than I would make a better fist of applying the Airfix supplied decal BUT I will be opting for a RedFox / Quinta set when the time comes.

To my mind the cockpit set is a quick but big win whereas other After market such as Engine dress up may not have such a dramatic effect on the finished model.

Dear Neil,

Thanks- there is much in what you say and I couldn't disagree. I thought that I would reflect my initial thoughts after having used one of Quinta's (very good looking) sets.

I appreciate your time in writing and hope that you continue to do so!

Best regards,

Z
